First Dance Lessons Song: “Angel” by Anita Baker

TV personality Khloe Kardashian and retired Lakers basketball player Lamar Odom got married on September 27th, 2009. The wedding was held in the Los Angeles mansion of Kardashian family friend and music manager Irving Azoff. The bridesmaid’s dresses and other details played color homage to the Lakers. Guests received cupcakes in purple and yellow colors as favors. Guests included family, friends, stars, and athletes.

Khloe and Lamar chose Anita Baker’s “Angel” for their first dance together. The soulful song from 1983 is an invitation for some smooth and romantic dancing. With first dance wedding lessons, I would have taught this couple a rumba intertwined with some back-and-forth Bachata. Lamar, being an athlete, would be a great student to learn how to lead Khloe though some impressive lifts and dips. We would have created some great wedding dance photos moments for them as well.

Lauren Bush and David Lauren

First Dance Lessons Song: “Vanishing Breed” by Michael Martin Murphey

CEO and model Lauren Bush and fashion mogul David Lauren got married September 4th, 2011. The couple wed on David’s 17,000 acre ranch in Ridgway Colorado. The wedding illuminated a feeling of rustic elegance. Lauren wore an embroidered Victorian-style gown designed by her new father-in-law, Ralph Lauren. She arrived to the wedding in a horse-drawn carriage and a Jewish ceremony was conducted. The day after the wedding the couple planned a rodeo.

Lauren and David chose “Vanishing Breed” by Michael Martin Murphey for their first dance together as husband and wife. The 1988 cowboy song was a great match for their Western ranch wedding. Additionally, Michael was a long-time friend of David and Lauren. Michael had even written the song at a cabin on the Lauren’s ranch in the 1980s. Lauren and David asked Michael to performed the song at their wedding live for their first dance. With the chance to provide Lauren and Michael with first dance lessons, I would have created a dance to fit their personalities and special day. Michael would lead Lauren through a mellow foxtrot through the quieter parts of the song. During the more energetic sections, the couple would seamlessly switch to a single time even beat country swing. Their dance would gleam elegantly with a cowboy feel.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

First Dance Lessons Song: “A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson

After 10 years and two kids together, actor and comedian Neil Patrick Harris and actor and chef David Burtka got married. The couple held an intimate ceremony in Italy. The couple wore custom Tom Ford tuxedos. The evening was festive and Sir Elton John performed at their reception.

Patrick and David picked a first dance song that meant something special for them. Patrick reported, “Our first dance was Kelly Clarkson’s ‘A Moment Like This.’ We love American Idol season 1. We were team Kelly. That was always kind of our song. We started dancing to it and we had a plan that… when the song crescendoed… fireworks are supposed to go off… Sure enough, it happened perfectly.”

Patrick and David seem to be a very fun and loving couple. Giving them first dance lessons would have been a joy. I would have choreographed an intimate dance for them. Their dance could have featured special moments including sweetheart cuddles and slow sways across the dance floor. During their firework crescendo, the couple would have struck a photogenic dip and kiss!
