Volume 14 of our First Dance Lessons for Celebrities series brings you an exciting examination of the wedding dance possibilities of select famous couples. In this issue we share our first dance lessons proposal for people who are no strangers to fame and Hollywood. These famous singers, actors, reality TV stars and celebrity photographers all got married and revealed varying details about their weddings. For all of them, we were able to discover their wedding dance songs and we used them to create our first dance lesson ideas. We factored in each couple’s song choice, wedding details, and personalities into the first dance forumulas! Orange County wedding dance couples seeking inspiration just might find it below. Take a look!

Nick Carter and Lauren Kitt

First Dance Lessons Song: “You Showed Me” by The Turtles

Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter and actress Lauren Kitt tied the knot on April 12th, 2014 in Santa Barbara, California. The wedding’s theme followed Lauren’s vision of “organic elegance with a rustic twist.” The aisle featured clusters of candles in antique lanterns. Ivory flowers and succulents wrapped in burlap lined the aisle as well. The couple shared a beautiful matrimony and a long celebratory reception.

Nick and Lauren chose a very groovy song for their first dance. Their song “You Showed Me” was released by The Turtles in 1968. The song was written by Jim McGuinn and Gene Clark of The Byrds in 1964 and has been covered by numerous artists since.

If Nick and Lauren had taken first dance lessons, I would have enjoyed switching things up and teaching them a West Coast swing to perform at their wedding. Their song has a hip vibe with lots of breaks in the music, which would invite for some playful West Coast Swing dance moves and improvisations. Their wedding had a playful atmosphere, which included the theme of Jaws and Star Trek during the procession. I would insure that the playful nature of this couple would continue into their first dance with fun moments that both their guests and they would enjoy!

Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici

First Dance Lessons Song: “One Woman” by Randy Rogers Band

Reality TV stars Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici found love on the 17th season of ABC’s “The Bachelor.” Their wedding was broadcast live as they got married in Santa Barbara. The couple had an elegant ceremony followed by a big party with delicious dining and lots of dancing!

For their wedding dance, Sean and Catherine chose “One Woman” by the Randy Rogers Band. The romantic song features lyrics of a man testifying his love. “One woman, you, for me, I know that you’re all I’ll ever need. Forever beside you, spending my life loving one woman.” The song fits well with Sean and Catherine’s fairy tale story and wedding.

With first dance lessons, Sean and Catherine could have learned a very smooth and slow single-time country swing. I would have enjoyed teaching Sean how to lead underarm turns, sweetheart cuddles, spinouts, and pretzels. We could have created a simple yet elegant wedding dance to capture the matrimony of this couple. First dance lessons would have prepared Sean and Catherine to dance in front of the cameras with ease.

Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko

First Dance Lessons Song: “My Baby Just Cares For Me” by Nina Simone

Actress Shannen Doherty and celebrity photographer Kurt Iswarienko got married October 15th, 2011 in Malibu, California. 162 guests attended this couple’s big day where Shannen reported, “I felt like a fairytale princess. It was surreal.” The bride wore three different dresses throughout the day and Kurt wore a Ralph Laruen tuxedo. He changed his tie every time Shannen changed her dress. The couple had their ceremony over sunset. Dinner followed with a menu including rib eye, branzino and beef and vegetable empanadas.

“My Baby Just Cares For Me” is an adorable choice for a wedding dance. With first dance lessons, Shannen and Kurt could have learned a fun triple time swing dance. The 1958 recording stylized by Nina Simone creates the perfect ambiance for a wedding dance. I would have choreographed a cute number for Shannen and Kurt to share with their family and friends. Their dance would incorporate dips, spins and picturesque moves.
