Wedding dance mashups are always a big hit!

A wedding dance mashup is undoubtedly one of my favorite types of first dances to watch and I wish I got to see them more often! A wedding dance mashup is when a wedding couple picks more than one song for their wedding dance and mashes them together in one big wedding dance choreography. Typically the bride and groom will be comedic and entertaining when they perform their wedding dance mashup for their guests. The type of music that is picked for a mashup can vary and is often unique  for each couple. All types of music can be included. Oldies, classic, pop, hip-hop, rock, romantic, Latin, and R&B are all popular choices and up for grabs. Typically wedding couples will stick to classic songs with well-known dance moves associated with that song. For example, LMFAO’s “Everyday I’m Shufflin” inspires wedding couples to include the Melbourne shuffle and running man in their wedding dance mashup.  The songs chosen will generally dictate what types of dance styles will be chosen.

Here are some popular examples from a variety of brides and grooms to inspire ideas for your wedding dance mashup:

The bride and groom started off their first dance moving to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra. Suddenly their music cut out and they broke out into dancing to “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A Lot. When couples do this surprise “fake out” they usually do fun and exciting moves to entertain their guests. This couple included a lot of shakes and shimmies as well as moves like the sprinkler, the arm wave, and the trust drop. Their first dance was truly entertaining to watch.

This video is a blast to watch. Both the bride and groom are showstoppers with their dramatic enthusiasm and goofy comedy. Their characters really came out and you can tell they are both true entertainers. Their dance started out with a slow dance to “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers. The couple then broke into the robot, which is a classic dance move that everyone knows. “Thriller” followed afterwards along with the “Thriller” dance from Michael Jackson’s music video. Other elements in this couple’s dance included the Charleston, head bobbing, and other fun dance moves to songs like “Footloose”, “Baby Don’t Hurt Me”, and “Its Not Unusual”. The wedding dance mashup ended just as it started with the happy couple slow dancing the night away.

The beautiful voice of Diana Ross starts off this couple’s wedding dance mashup. When their music suddenly stops they act as if they don’t like the interruption. Obviously this is all an act, but it was done very convincingly. Next the couple busted out the robot and did some major body shaking to the song “Everybody Dance Now”. Their wedding dance mashup was not yet complete. They moved into “Jump On It”. Then, things got serious as the groom put on a doo rag and “Soldier Boy” came on. Their two sons joined them and they all killed it on the dance floor. After the family was done dancing together, they ended their wedding dance mashup with a bit of free styling.

Leah & Ryan were the bride and groom of this fantastic wedding dance mashup. They started off their slow dance with swaying, spins, and a kiss to “Everything” by Michael Buble. “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson came on next and the groom rocked out with some of MJ’s original dance moves plus some crazy body rolls. The couple continued performing solid humor with their song choices and their charismatic characters. Songs like “I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania Twain, “I Just Died In Your Arms” by Cutting Crew, “Lets Get It On” by Marvin Gaye, and “Gangnam Style” by PSY also appeared in their mix. The wedding mashup ended with a beautiful lift, dip, and kiss to the song they started with. What a great dance!

I hope you laughed at least once while watching these videos and got inspired to create your own unique wedding mashup dance!
