Wedding Dance Lessons for Celebrities Volume 5

Each week I pick five different celebrity couples and discuss when they got married, where their venue was, and which song they picked for their first dance. Generally, I don’t know if the celebrity couples took wedding dance lessons prior to their wedding or what their wedding dance pertained, but I like to create my own image of what their wedding dance would look like based on the celebrities personalities, wedding venue, and song choice. I hope that our readers find this is inspirational. If you find yourself hesitant or nervous to come in for dance lessons in our Orange County dance studio, rest assured because here at Bella Ballroom Dance Studio you will be taken care of!

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #1: Katherine Heigl & Josh Kelley

First Dance Song: “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin

Wedding Venue: Stein Erikesen Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah

wedding dance lessons for katherine and joshI love a winter wonderland wedding. That is exactly what Katherine and Josh had as they married on December 23, 2007 at Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley, Utah. The small tent was decked out in white candles and white flowers scattered everywhere, along with Christmas decorations, evergreen trees, and twinkling lights. The icing on the cake was that there was a light snow drizzle outside. With such a beautiful song like “Heavenly Day” by Patty Griffin as their wedding song, I would have this lovely couple start at a cute intimate sway and as the song picks up have them break out into pretty spins and a awesome lift so Josh could show off his stunning bride. Katherine also danced with her dad for their father daughter dance to “Daughter” by Louden Wainwright III. I’d love to see them choreograph a sweet routine to this song. It’s such a happy song and few fun choreographed moments would been very entertaining for guests and would create some fantastic photo memories. The night finished off with a live set by The Stingers where the guest joined in dancing and celebrating the couple’s new beginnings.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #2: Barack Obama & Michelle Robinson

First Dance Song: “You & I” by Stevie Wonder

Wedding Venue: Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, IL

wedding dance lessons with barack obamaBarack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, married first lady Michelle Robinson on October 3rd, 1992. The Christian ceremony was at Trinity United Church of Christ in the city of where they met, Chicago, IL. When Michelle found out the meaning of what Stevie Wonder meant about love, she felt an instant connection to it and decided to use it for their wedding. The lyrics are truly beautiful. For this song and the classy couple, I would have liked to see them do a Foxtrot so everyone could see Obama how infatuated he was with her.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #3: Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo

First Dance Song: “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” by Steve Tyrell

Wedding Venue: Sir Richards Branson’s private home on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands

wedding dance nick and vanessaNick and Vanessa had a very fun and different wedding idea for their guest to experience. Their guests were invited via a plane ticket and were not told where they were going. The wedding was at Sir Richards Branson’s private home on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands on July 15th, 2011. The bride and groom celebrated for four days with their 35 guests. Their reception was taken to the beach where they danced to “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” by Steve Tyrell, under twinkle lights that were hung from trees. For this romantic couples first dance I would have them dance the night away to a Waltz where Nick could do a couple cuddles positions and sweep her off her feet both literally and figuratively and after that their guests could join them on the dance floor to dance away the night in celebration and happiness.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #5: Lauren Conrad & William Tell

First Dance Song: “You’re My Best Friend” by The Once

Wedding Venue: Sunstone Winery in Santa Yaez, CA

Wedding Dance lauren & WilliamLauren and William had a beautiful whimsical wedding with 230 guests in attendance at the Sunstone Winery in Santa Yaez, California on September 13th, 2014. The wedding was centered around an apple theme and had some olive trees, and chandeliers under a great big tent. For the wedding ceremony, the bride dressed in a gorgeous ten-foot train wedding dress. She later changed into a strapless dress for her first dance with William. The song they chose was the same song he proposed to her too. “You’re my Best Friend” by The Once is a great fun song for a swing dance. The high energy of this type of dance would be perfect for the groom to then surprise his bride by singing a classic song like “Cant Take My Eyes Off of You” (Which he actually did do by the way). Images of Heath Ledgers performance from 10 Things I Hate About You come to mind. How cute is that! I’m sure it was much more romantic than that scene, but I can only imagine how surprised and happy Lauren could have been.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #5: Mark Zuckerberg & Priscilla Chan

First Dance Song: Last Night on Earth by Green Day

Wedding Venue: Marks Home in Palo Alto, CA

first dance lessons Orange County Mark ZuckerbergThis cute couple got married in the backyard of Mark’s Palo Alto home in California. Their 100 guests were surprised about the wedding. They thought they were celebrating Chan’s graduations from UCSF Medical School, which is a huge deal and great accomplishment. Little did they know, they would be celebrating the happiness of this long lasting love of this couple. Their sheep dog walked them down the aisle to say their “I Do’s.” For their first dance during their reception the couple danced to “Last Night on Earth” by Green Day. With this type of song I think it would have been sexy to do a Rumba. Mark and Priscilla could really showcase their cuteness, but most of all their love and passion for each other with sexy hip movements. There was a live performance by Billie Hoe Armstrong for the husband and wife and their entire guests. Sounds like a wonderful wedding to me.

I hope you enjoyed the details and ideas of these celebrities couples. If you found inspiration be sure to let us know and stop by here at our dance Studio in orange County. You will not be disappointed and I can assure you that you would be in great hands. Best to you all!
