Disney Dancing: A Magical First Dances
The Disney Company is a culturally and globally iconic, with billions of fans and followers. A large part of their relevance comes from their iconic characters and equally iconic songs. Melodies that get stuck in your head, tunes that compel you to tap your toes and bop your head. We dance along in our kitchens, cars, and even in our showers. But if we look at the music closely, we can find even more depth than previously expected. Each song has a tune and a construct that- to a trained dancer’s ear- can reflect beautifully on the dance floor. Disney being such a cultural icon and being such a huge part of many people’s lives and memories means more and more couples wish to invite their inner child into their wedding day. Disney songs aren’t just melodious numbers, they are songs that many couples can relate to and fall in love with.
Aladdin (1992) was on a loop at our house. This- in my own, very bias and humble opinion- is the greatest Disney classic of all time! Songs like Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead, and Friend Like Me are all part of its enchanting, irresistible charm. But one stands out above the rest; A Whole New World. The love story between Jasmine and Aladdin blooms as we all stare on in envy and wonder. This song is actually rated #2 on the Billboards charts and is one of the most commonly used Disney songs for weddings here at Bella Ballroom. Whether it’s falling in love, getting engaged, getting married, this song fits perfectly as couples enter a whole new world TOGETHER. So what dance would accompany such a beautiful song full of varying tempos? What suits it best is the lively Foxtrot!
Next let’s take a look at THE most popular Disney song used for first dances here at Bella Ballroom. A Tale as Old as Time (Beauty and the Beast 1991)! This song is a fan favorite for sure! The melody is soft, slow, romantic and wistful. A love so deep deserves a song equally as deep and profound. The song has so much depth and layers and you could dance to it in so many ways. One dance style being the intricate Bolero!
Lastly, let’s look at the #1 Disney song on the billboard charts and one very commonly used here at Bella as well: Can You Feel the Love (Lion King 1994). This song carries so much passion! It is number one for a reason. The story of Nala and Simba is one of perseverance and love that anyone can relate to. This goosebump-inducing song deserve a dance equally as evoking, the Rumba!
If you would like to learn a dance that is as shinning, shimmering spleeendiiidd as the story of Jasmine and Aladdin, or if you’d like to learn a dance telling a tale as true as it can, like that of Beauty & the Beast, or even to learn a dance to have your guests feel the love tonight and for ever after, like the story of Nala and Simba; Bella Ballroom can help you nurture your inner child and achieve the wedding dance of your dreams!
