Self Care Tips : Before the Big Day
Self Care Tips: Before the Big Day
The big day is swiftly approaching and you are beyond stressed. You have a million and one things on your to-do list and it seems almost never ending. But take a deep breathe, you’re almost there! All of your hard work will soon pay off and you will have an unforgettable wedding that will forever live in you and your significant other’s memory.
But as the big day rolls around, it is so easy to forget to engage in self care. Self-care goes to the end of the to-do list, that is, if it ever made it on the list. And I know, with everything that is going on with preparing all of the details for the wedding, you may find yourself struggling to find time for yourself to take a much needed breather.
Even though it seems like a difficult task to find time for yourself in this crazy hectic moment of your life, engaging in just 10-20 minutes of self-care a day can prove to have an incredibly big impact. Just taking those few minutes a day to center yourself and focus on you while letting the whole world along with your worries melt away, it can make all the difference in your stress filled day.
Below you will find a few self-care tips that you can practice doing before the big day! All of these can be done in 20 minutes or less but you can dedicate as much time as you can until you feel ready to tackle the world once again.
Mindful Meditation/Breathing Exercises
The first one on this list is mindful meditation and breathing exercises. There are so many apps that can help with this! A popular one that has been floating around social media lately is the calm app. The calm app is amazing at helping you meditate and helping you anxiety levels go down. In a stressful like this, it is important to remember to breathe and this app can help with that. But also, if this app isn’t your thing, with just a simple Google search, you can find so many guided meditation videos and breathing exercises that you can engage in that can help you recenter yourself and keep pushing through this stressful time in your life.
Reading
Another amazing form to destress is reading! Whether this be listening to an audiobook, picking up your favorite book, or just scrolling through the latest gossip on social media, reading transports you to a world other than your own. And this can be just a 5 minute long chapter or you can let the book absorb you into the its story for hours on end. Either way, go into a world other than your own and forget about all of life’s little details that have been filling up your head lately.
Go out for a walk
Next on the list is, going out for a walk. It’s sounds so simple and you may even wonder how it could even help you. Well, going out for a breath of fresh can be so relaxing and a perfect opportunity to center yourself. It’s a time to remind yourself that everything will be okay and that your big day is going to be one of the most memorable that you’ve ever had. You can go to a nearby park or out to the beach or just anywhere that you find to be relaxing and that will give you the space that you need to destress for a little while. Another thing you can try is going on an easy hike nearby, whether this be by yourself or with your significant other. Once you feel the wind in your hair and sun on your face, you will instantly feel refreshed!
Dance it out
If you have ever watched Grey’s Anatomy, you definitely know all about this. Just like Meredith and Christina, just dance out all of your problems and let loose for a little. Put on your favorite dancing music or simply anything with a fun beat and just dance! Dance away all of your troubles and get into the music!
All of this dancing could serve as inspiration for you and your significant other to work on your first dance! Have y’all worked on that yet? If not, head over to Bella Ballroom and work on your very own personalized, unique, and unforgettable first dance! It’s just $20 for your first consultation. Just a small investment for a lifetime of memories.
Exercise
Exercising is such an amazing way to clear your mind and destress. Ever heard of the runners high? Working out releases natural “feel good” chemicals in your brain. Engaging in some kind of workout can be so beneficial to you, the adrenaline that you’ll feel will just help you feel so much better. It can be any kind of workout from going on a light jog, to yoga or pilates, to even lifting weights. The goal is to get your blood pumping and distracting yourself from the stress you are feeling.
Journal
The last one on this list is definitely my favorite and that is journaling! In this hectic time of your life, you are feeling so many feelings. You are most likely super stressed and excited at the same time. It’s just a whole concoction of emotions going on. What a better way to get it all out than to journal it! Write out all that you’re feeling. Just write about how your day has been, how you feel, and anything that you want to get out. Once you are done writing, end your entry with a positive affirmation for yourself. Write something like, “I am so proud of myself”, “I’ve got this”, “Everything is going to be okay” or just any kind of positive note to remind yourself just how amazing you are.
The best part of this is that years later, you can reread your journal entries and remember all of the things that you were feeling around this time in your life. It’ll be an excellent trip down memory lane and even something you can share with your significant other that’ll bring the two of you that much closer.
I hope you enjoyed reading through this list of self-care tips. During this stressful time in your life, self care might not be such a priority to you but it definitely is beneficial to engage in it. Whether it be for 5 minutes a day or even longer, don’t forget to take a moment to focus on you and breathe. Remember that the stressful part is almost over and your are going to have an unforgettable wedding that will forever live in you memories!
