Wedding Dance Lessons for Celebrities Volume 2

March 20, 2016 by

In the first volume of Wedding Dance Lessons for Celebrities, we wanted to explore some first dance ideas for different celebrities. We had so much fun with that we decided to do it again with new celebrities! For these famous couples, we were able to discover their first dance songs, however, whether or not they took wedding dance lessons or how they danced still remained a mystery to us. So, we thought it would be fun to come up with some first dance ideas that we would want to see from these couples. In order to come up with our dancing ideas, we kept in mind their first dance song, the wedding venue, and the personalities of the couples. We hope you enjoy our first dance ideas!

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #1: Carrie Underwood & Mike Fisher

First Dance Song: “Love Never Fails” by Brandon Heath

Wedding Venue: Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia

wedding dance lessons carrie and mikeOne of our favorite country singers got married in 2010 to her hockey beau in Greensboro, Georgia in front of 200 guests. They picked a really lovely song for their first dance. We’ve actually had a few of our wedding couples select this song at our Orange County Wedding Dance Studios. This first dance song works really well with the dance style the waltz. This famous couple is so elegant and we think the waltz would have been perfect for them. We’d love to see this elegant couple performing sweeping steps, sways, and twirls across the floor. This waltz dance style would also have gone fabulously with her wedding dress as well, since her dress was very frilly and flowing and would have accentuated the movements well–although she may have wanted to remove her wedding veil for her first dance, so that it didn’t get in the way. Either way, we’re sure this beautiful couple had a fantastic first dance.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #2: Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth

First Dance Song: “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan

Wedding Venue: Private Ranch Estate in Ojai, California

wedding dance lessons reese and jimOn March 26th, 2011 Reese Witherspoon married the love of her life. She had a traditional wedding ceremony with about 100 friends and family gathered in their support of this intimate and private event. The wedding theme was described as “country chic” so it would make sense that they chose a country song for their first dance. This was a great first dance song choice for this couple, and we were happy to see Reese in touch with her country roots. For this song and this couple, we would choose very minimalistic choreography during their wedding dance lessons. The version of the song they chose is a very simple arrangement and we’d want their first dance choreography to match that. We’re thinking a lot of closeness in their dance. We would have loved to see them holding each other tight, with some small turns and soft sways. To maintain their country theme, we think it would be fun for them to add some country line dancing or country Two Step dancing later in the evening. It could have been a fun idea to hire a dance instructor to lead their guests through different country dancing! That would have gotten all of the wedding guests on the dance floor and everyone could really have fun with their country theme.

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #3: Kate Middleton & Prince William

First Dance Song: Your Song by Ellie Goulding

Wedding Venue: Westminster Abbey in London, England

wedding dance lessons for william and kateThis wedding of the decade was broadcasted all over the world in more than 180 countries via television, radio, and the Internet. On April 29th 2011, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, married Catherine Middleton. Approximately a total of 1,900 family, friends, and many foreign royals and diplomats attended the wedding. Their first dance was to a live performance of Ellie Goulding’s “Your Song.” This is actually a fairly popular first dance song for students at our orange county dance studio. However, since most of our wedding dance lessons clients aren’t royalty, they don’t usually get to dance to a live version of the song! Since this was such an elaborate wedding, what could have been a really fun idea would be to hire professional dancers to dance around William and Kate during their first dance. We are picturing professional ballroom dance couples dancing and twirling all around the couple as they danced. We are thinking the bigger the better, so they could even have had fire dancers on the dance floor to add a ton of drama and flair. Only the best and the flashiest for this royal couple!

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #4: Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi

First Dance Song: “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder

Wedding Venue: Private home in Los Angeles, CA

wedding dance lessons for ellen and portiaIt seems that the trend for celebrities is to want to have their wedding day private and who could blame them. Ellen and Portia had a very private ceremony at their Los Angeles home where nineteen guests celebrated with them for an intimate dinner. They tied the knot in 2008 and decided on the wonderful Stevie Wonder to be the artist of their first dance to “Ribbon in the Sky.” A great dance for this first dance song and this couple would be the Nightclub Two Step. The great part about the Nightclub Two Step is that you can dance many of the steps in “open” or “handhold” position. This would be great for this couple as they could take turns taking the lead if they wanted. This dance style would also lend itself to some really cute photo moments. Say cheese!

Wedding Dance Lessons Couple #5: George Clooney & Amal Alamudolin

First Dance Song: “Why Shouldn’t I” by Rosemary Clooney sung by Nora Sagal

Wedding Venue: Aman Canal Grande Luxury Resort in Venice, Italy

wedding dance lessons for george and amalNot many of the details are known surrounding George Clooney’s wedding to the beautiful Amal Alamudolin, but what we do know is that it was in Venice, Italy at the Aman Canal Grande Luxury Resort on September 27th, 2014. The first dance song they chose was perfect for them we think for several reasons. First, George Clooney’s aunt, the late Rosemary Clooney, performed the most popular version of this song. We are sure this first dance song had meaning for them for this reason. Secondly, the lyrics are just perfect for George considering his famed former bachelor status. George has such a playful personality and we’d love to see some of that in his first dance. Some slowed down swing dancing could be really fun for this couple! We would have wanted to see George spinning Amal around and around, with playful cuddles and a bit of flair. George seems to do everything he does so effortlessly that we’d definitely want to see him looking good on dance floor. If he needed some help, we’d love to see him take some wedding dance lessons, even if they were taken in secret so help keep up the illusion that he’s naturally good at everything.

We hope you had as much fun reading about our first dance ideas for celebrities as we had coming up with them! And if you’re planning a nearby wedding in Orange County, CA or beyond, hopefully these ideas have helped inspire you for your first dance.
